ChatGPT vs Claude vs Gemini vs Perplexity: what do they find about your company?

A practical comparison of the AI surfaces used for B2B research: what they search, what they cite and how to verify claims about your company.

Topic guide · AI visibility

Nuklias x FindCraft editorial material. The comparison uses public sources and does not promise rankings or citations

The same question about your company can produce four answers and four different source sets. A useful comparison does not look for a winning logo. It asks what each surface retrieves, what it cites and whether the source supports the claim a prospective buyer sees.

You are not comparing four equivalent models

ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini are products that may answer with or without web search, depending on the mode in use. Perplexity describes itself as an AI-powered search engine and says it can integrate GPT and Claude models. The meaningful comparison is therefore between search and research experiences, not only the models behind them. What each vendor documents and what a displayed source cannot establish on its own
SurfaceDocumented behaviourInterpretation limit
ChatGPT Search (OpenAI Help Center)May search automatically or on request and may show inline citations or a Sources panelA citation does not guarantee a complete claim, and top placement cannot be guaranteed
Claude (Claude Help Center)Web search brings in current information and includes direct citations and source linksDo not assume every answer searched the web; confirm the active mode and displayed sources
Gemini (Google Gemini Apps Help)Deep Research includes Google Search by default and allows sources to be changed or addedThe selected mode and source set can change the trail; compare like with like
Perplexity (Perplexity Help Center)The vendor describes a web-search product with answers backed by citations and source linksCitation presence does not independently validate source quality or factual accuracy

What to inspect on each surface

In ChatGPT Search, first confirm that the answer used the web, then open the inline citations or Sources panel. OpenAI states that inclusion depends in part on allowing OAI-SearchBot, while no method can guarantee top placement. (OpenAI Help Center)

In Claude, distinguish an ordinary answer from one that used web search. The vendor documentation says search-grounded responses include direct citations and source links for verification. (Claude Help Center)

In Gemini, record whether Deep Research was used and which sources were selected. Google Search is included by default in that mode, but users can add or remove other sources. (Google Gemini Apps Help)

In Perplexity, treat a citation as the start of verification. Open the original page and check whether it supports the exact service, location, comparison or recommendation made in the answer. (Perplexity Help Center)

Mention, citation, accuracy and recommendation are different signals

  • Mention: the company name appears in the answer
  • Citation: the answer displays a link to a page
  • Accuracy: the cited page supports the precise claim and the information is current
  • Recommendation: the company is selected against the buyer's criteria, not merely listed

One question, four source trails

Keep the question and language identical when comparing surfaces. European B2B companies should usually test English and their priority local language separately, particularly when service names, locations or company descriptions differ across public profiles.

  • The buyer question and language used
  • The surface and search or research mode
  • The material claim in the answer
  • The cited page and the date of its information
  • Whether the source supports or contradicts the claim
  • What should be corrected, completed or connected more clearly

What a company can improve on its own website

Google's current guidance keeps the foundation for its generative features inside SEO: useful original content, a clear technical structure, crawlable pages and index eligibility. It does not recommend manufacturing a page for every query variation, rewriting solely for AI systems or treating llms.txt as a Google visibility shortcut. (Google Search Central)

  • Keep the company name, services, locations and descriptions consistent across public sources
  • Give each material service a clear page that explains who it is for and what it changes
  • Show dates, authors and sources where information can change or requires verification
  • Connect relevant pages internally and remove contradictory or duplicate versions
  • Check server responses, canonicals, robots directives and content availability
  • Avoid keyword stuffing and guarantees of citation or placement

The useful verdict

There is no universal winner for B2B research. Monitor the surfaces your buyers use and compare claims, sources and accuracy under consistent conditions. Microsoft explicitly notes that citation activity in its own AI reporting does not indicate ranking, authority or page placement. (Microsoft Bing Blogs)

FAQ

Which is better for B2B research: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Perplexity?

There is no universal winner. Use the same question and language, then compare material claims, sources, accuracy and how easily each answer can be verified.

Why does the same question produce different sources?

The surfaces can use different search modes, sources, query rewrites and location signals. Record the mode in use and compare the original source, not only the wording of the answer.

Does a citation mean the page ranks better?

No. A citation shows that a page appeared as a source in a particular answer. It does not establish rank, authority, stable placement or a recommendation.

Do I need separate content for every AI platform?

Not by default. One clear, useful, current and accessible page is a stronger foundation than near-duplicate variants manufactured for every engine or query wording.
