A useful comparison does not begin with the longest feature checklist. It begins with how your organisation hires, where it recruits and what should happen after a candidate accepts an offer. TreeGarden and Workable can both cover recruiting and HR, but they package the work differently.
The short answer
In its current public offer, TreeGarden prices the ATS by active-job capacity and offers HR separately by employee count. Workable sells Recruiting and HR individually or as a bundle, with the displayed price changing by company size and plan. Two entry prices are therefore not comparable until the scenario is the same. (TreeGarden / Workable)
- Evaluate Workable first when international job distribution and candidate sourcing are the primary constraints
- Evaluate TreeGarden first when you hire in Romania or Europe and want validated ATS context to continue into HR
- Do not select either product from a presentation alone: test one real role, permissions, exports, automation and human control
- Request 12- and 36-month costs for the same employee count, active jobs, users and modules
Where each platform has a material advantage
Workable publishes distribution to more than 200 job boards and a large passive-sourcing pool. TreeGarden's own current Workable review recognises those as meaningful strengths. TreeGarden differentiates around European workflows, candidate-to-employee continuity and implementation closer to the local operating model. Exact integrations and included capabilities still need to be confirmed for your market and plan. (Workable / TreeGarden)
- Workable: broad global distribution, passive sourcing and a mature international footprint
- Workable: Recruiting and HR within one commercial offer, with capabilities and add-ons varying by plan
- TreeGarden: ATS pipeline, Edera recommendations for human review and continuity into the HR record
- TreeGarden: unlimited users in the published plans, ATS capacity based on active jobs and optional HR based on employee count
- Nuklias: implementation of roles, stages, permissions and operating rules so TreeGarden reflects the real hiring process
Compare total cost on your operating scenario
- Record peak active-job volume for a normal month and for a hiring surge
- Count recruiters, hiring managers and other users, then total employees if HR is in scope
- Add modules, AI credits, paid job distribution, migration, integrations, support and enablement
- Review renewal, export, deletion and termination terms before calculating any saving
- Model 12 and 36 months without treating per-employee and per-active-job prices as equivalent
AI changes the procurement checklist
The European Commission explains that certain AI systems used to filter applications or evaluate candidates may be classified as high-risk, depending on their intended purpose and use. For the buyer, the practical question is not whether a product contains AI, but what the function does, what it explains and who can stop or correct its output. (European Commission)
- Ask to see the input data, the explanation shown to the recruiter and the action the system can trigger
- Confirm that an authorised person can disregard, reverse and stop the action without bypassing the workflow
- Keep the final decision with someone who has context and authority, not with an isolated score
- Test incorrect results, closely matched profiles and requests to correct or delete candidate data
- Separate a vendor's compliance statement from your own contractual, technical and legal assessment

FAQ
Is Workable only an ATS?
No. Its current official offer includes both Recruiting and HR, sold separately or as a bundle. Comparisons that describe Workable as ATS-only are outdated.
Is TreeGarden or Workable cheaper?
There is no defensible answer without a common scenario. Calculate the cost for your employee count, active jobs, users, modules, add-ons and contract period.
Should AI select a candidate automatically?
It should not be treated as the default decision-maker. Define exactly what each function recommends or automates, retain human control and assess the obligations that apply to the intended use.
What should we test in the demonstration?
Use a real role and follow approval, publishing, candidate intake, evaluation, communication, offer, export and the HR handover. Also inspect permissions, logs and the ability to stop automation.
